A Bit of Useful Information about Our Expertise: Cakes

Wikipedia describes a cake as a sweet, baked dessert normally containing a few basic ingredients: flour, sugar, eggs, butter or oil, either milk or water and a leavening agent.

Bakers usually add flavourful things added to it to create a certain kinds, such as chocolate, vanilla, coffee, orange, or banana. There are many different flavours as well as fillings and combinations of both, it could have an orange, raspberry, or a fruit filling as well as white chocolate, vanilla, or coffee to chocolate to make it mocha flavoured. The combinations are as endless as your imagination, although, there are some classic flavour combinations such as red velvet with vanilla filling or frosting and Carrot with cream cheese and walnut filling, a personal favourite of mine.

Along with flavours and its filling you can also choose different densities. Angel Food is very light and airy made by folding whipped egg whites to the batter, because of its lightness is said to be the "food of angels". On the other hand there is Devils" Food which is a heavier butter cake, chocolate with chocolate filling which is said to be Angel food Cakes" counterpart, both in namesake as well as flavour contrast and in its density. Lighter cakes are usually called "Sponge" and heavier dense ones are usually have a different combination of ingredients and are called "Butter" or "Pound". The different ingredients and ways of preparing this dessert result in different flavours and densities.

Cake can also be classified by the special occasion they are intended for Birthdays, Weddings, or Passover Plava (a type of Jewish sponge sometimes made with matzo meal and without a leaving agent). Both Wedding and Birthday cakes are usually heavily decorated for the event or individual they are for. Birthday cakes are usually decorated with age appropriate colors and pictures, For a little boys birthday it may have cars or trains and his namesake , a little girl may have princess"s and ballet shoes and her name sake as well, a large corporate man may have business suits or golf . Each birthday dessert is generally individualized for the intended celebrator and is shared among family and friends.

The Wedding cake is a very traditional part of a couples union, the symbolism of which began back in the Roman Empire.

The groom would break a loaf of bread over the bride"s head as a symbol of his dominance in the marriage. The tradition of the couple cutting the cake together is meant to symbolize their first task together in married life and the gesture of feeding it to one another is traditionally a symbol of the commitment the bride and groom are making. A more modern take on a wedding cake is often in the same concept as one for a birthday, symbolizing their individuality and being decorated appropriately. Coming into the 21st century cake has been made into personalized art form, being highly skilled and creative they can be made in the likeness of anything you can imagine in any colour or flavour with any filling the person chooses. This sweet dessert is easily one of the newest mediums of the art world while having its roots deep in tradition.
